I’ve been expanding my programming language repertoire lately and decided to continue with Angular. So, I created my first Angular app, HowMuch.Pizza! There’s not much to it because, really, how much could there be to a calculator that figures out how much pizza you need?

Why Angular?

AngularJS Job Listings

I have experience with about a dozen programming languages. This meant finding the next one I wanted to add to my programmer life repertoire took a little while. There were three that stuck out to me: Angular, React, and something for .NET. So why did I choose Angular out of all the options for programming languages today? I can sum it up in a few words: Demand based on prior experience. Look at the job listings for freelance, contract, and full-time employees. There are tons of job listings posted pretty consistently.

Searching only on Dice for just the jobs that include AngularJS as a skill in Atlanta netted over 70 openings just now. Expand that search to anywhere in the country and you’ll see almost 2,000 listings. Pair that with the fact that I already had experience with similar languages.

So it was decided – Angular.

Why a Pizza Calculator?

After deciding that I was going to do my project in Angular, I had to decide what to actually do. This part took me longer than coming up with the language I wanted to learn. There’s one thing that I’ve needed several times in life and have never been happy with the options: a pizza calculator.

Don’t get me wrong, there are others out there – I just don’t like any of them.

My First Angular App was Born

I had the language to learn and the app I wanted to build. Programming it took about twenty hours of total time spread out over numerous weeks. To learn, I used a variety of different sites from the main Angular site @ angular.io, Codecademy, etc. For the most part, it echoed the languages I’ve learned before, but was way more powerful than I expected it to be at first blush.
